Terms for Bespoke Garments

To place an order for a Bespoke garment, please use our contact form. Initial consultations cost $60 and are non-refundable, however can be put towards the cost of your final garment.

A non-refundable 50% deposit is payable prior to commencing your toile (mock up). Payment of this deposit will confirm your agreement with these terms and conditions. 

This initial invoice will not include the cost of final garment materials. 

You will be invoiced for all final garment materials along with the remaining 50% payment, payable upon completion of your final garment/look. 

We are excited to work with you to bring your vision to life! We aim to confirm your design prior to commencement of the toile.

If you change your mind about the design after work has commenced, Metem will of course work to adjust the design, however please understand that this will likely incur an increased fee and will possibly delay the delivery date of the completed garment. 

We charge extra work time at $50/hr so please keep this in mind before approving the design to go to sample. 

If you have any concerns about fit, please raise them as soon as possible! We want to make sure you leave with something that makes you feel amazing so communication is key. 

We aim to always meet the deadlines we have been provided by you prior to commencing work. If your timeline changes, please alert us as soon as possible so we can do our best to accommodate. Please note that in certain circumstances we may not be able to accommodate rush orders and those we can accept will incur a rush fee. 

In our endeavour to meet your deadline, we will require certain tasks of you (ie, taking your measurements, fittings, design approval, fabric approval etc). If any of these tasks are delayed on your end, this will have a flow on effect and may result in your completed garment being delayed. 

Unfortunately if you unreasonably delay completing these necessary requirements, we reserve the right to cancel your order. 

If you or Metem cancels your order, please note we will not be able to refund your 50% deposit. Any funds paid above the 50% deposit will be returned to you minus our reasonable costs incurred. These include: work already completed including design, pattern making, cutting, sourcing and construction, charged at our rate of $50/hour. Any materials purchased for your order. In this event you will receive an itemised list of costs incurred. 

Any deposit from cancelled orders cannot be used towards future orders as it is considered forfeited.

For local clients, Jolie (designer) is available to take measurements in person if that is the client’s preference. For long-distance clients, you will need to send your measurements yourself. Metem will provide specific instructions on what measurements are required and how to take them, however Metem cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy of these measurements if taken incorrectly.

Where weight loss/weight gain/pregnancy is a factor, please alert us prior to work commencing so we can plan appropriately. If unexpected or dramatic weight loss/weight gain occurs between fittings you will be charged $50/hr for extra pattern making/construction to make the appropriate changes to your garment.  

All patterns drafted for your garment remain the property of Metem Studios and are not for sale. Your patterns will be kept on file should you wish to order another garment from Metem.

Once the garment is finished and paid for, we deem that if fulfils the contract and you have accepted it as is. From this point, the garment is your responsibility. It is your responsibility to adhere to the care instructions given to you upon receipt of the final garment. 

If in future you wish to make any alterations/repairs (due to general wear and tear) to your garment, we will gladly assist. If damage occurs because you did not follow our care instructions any repairs are at your expense. If any damage occurs to your garment as a result of our craftsmanship it can be repaired free of charge, at our discretion. Every care is taken to ensure your garment(s) is of the highest quality. Please treat it with care and understand that as a garment of use, it will not remain pristine forever.

We do not provide refunds for change of mind however we will provide refunds as required under Australian Consumer Law.

Local fittings:

Local fittings can be completed either at Jolie’s home studio in Northcote, VIC or at a location of your choosing. Jolie can travel within 30 minutes drive of Northcote included in your garment cost however any further travel will incur a fee charged at $50/hour. The fitting itself is included in the garment cost. 

Please come to your fittings alone unless otherwise organised. 

Long-distance fittings:

You will have your toile posted to you to try on during a video call fitting. Please note, you will need to have access to a reliable internet connection and be able to use either zoom, google meet or WhatsApp video call to participate. On this call Jolie will talk you through how to fit the toile to yourself with safety pins/markers. You will also be required to take photos of the fitted garment on you to send through for reference. You will then need to post this toile back to Metem. The cost of postage is included in the garment cost.

Every care will be taken to ensure your garment fits you perfectly. However please note that as the designer is unable to fit the garment herself, the fit of the garment is largely your responsibility. We are counting on you to communicate what you like and dislike, how it feels and what needs to be adjusted. While some fit issues may seem “obvious” it is always necessary to articulate them to ensure we are all on the same page.
