What is Metem?
Metem is a sustainably minded clothing service and fashion label based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). We value thoughtful underconsumption, creating each design from primarily deadstock or repurposed materials.
Why is Metem?
Our aim is to encourage people to engage with fashion in a way that honours both the environment and the people who create their clothing.
We believe the value of our clothes is found in the stories we can tell about them. Whether it’s repairing a jacket that’s travelled the world with you, being able to say you helped design your own wedding outfit, or knowing your new bag was made from materials that would have otherwise been sent to landfill, metem wants to give you something to talk about.
Who is Metem?
Metem is currently a one woman show, helmed by Jolie Chatfield.
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion Design) under her belt, and a decade of experience across the fashion, film and music industries, Jolie has a keen eye for form, fit and function alike.
She is incredibly passionate about sustainability, having previously hosted free clothing repair workshops from her home and committing to a “nothing-new-unless-I’ve-made-it” clothing consumption mantra for the better part of 7 years.
Jolie wants Metem to throw metaphorical spikes in front of fashion’s fast track to landfill. By rescuing recyclable materials from the end stage of their lifecycle, then using those materials to create well fitting, timeless pieces, on a made-to-order basis, she hopes to be part of a positive shift in society’s sustainability story.
